Patch's Poll: Should Malloy Bypass the Legislative Task Force on Gun Violence?

Gov. Dannel Malloy

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy surprised many — possibly even his own staff — by telling the Journal Inquirer this week that he would release his own set of proposals to combat gun violence, bypassing a bipartisan legislative task force.

According to the Connecticut Mirror, Malloy felt that the opportunity to pass significant gun control measures might be disappearing as the legislature studied the issue.

"At this critical juncture, in the wake of unspeakable tragedy in our own state, the governor believes that we cannot let the chance to affect real, positive change pass us by," said Andrew Doba, the communication director for Malloy. "He thinks we should act quickly and decisively to make Connecticut safer."

The governor was expected to announce his proposals Thursday before a joint appearance with Vice President Joe Biden, who is speaking at a gun violence symposium at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
