The federal budget cuts known as the sequester are looming over the nation. When they go into effect on Friday — unless a last minute deal is reached — Connecticut will lose lose $8.7 million in education funding along with another $6.3 million in federal funds to help students with disabilities.

Connecticut could also lose "thousands of middle class jobs" and "vital services for children, seniors, people with mental illness and our men and women in uniform," the White House said in a summary of the budget reductions.

In Connecticut, approximately 3,000 civilian Department of Defense employees would be furloughed, reducing gross pay by around $15 million in total. The attached PDF breaks down the projected impact on the state.

Do the federal cuts affect your job? Do you worry that your children will lose school services?

Take our poll and tell us in the comments.
