What's Happening at the Enfield Senior Center

Medical Oncologist Jay Thumar, M.D. with the Johnson Memorial Cancer Center will discuss risk factors, screenings and common myths and facts associated with cancer on Thursday, March 28, at 6 p.m.  A light dinner will be served.  There is no charge for this event but registration is required.  Register for Cancer – Facts and Myths in the Senior Center office.

“Argo” won Best Picture honors at the Academy Awards.  See the movie at the Enfield Senior Center on Thursday, March 21, and enjoy a Quesadilla as well. Tickets are on sale for dinner and a movie for $5.  Movie tickets only may be purchased at the door for $2.

If you enjoy Ballroom Dancing, join us on Friday, March 8, at 2 p.m., for our Afternoon Ballroom Dance.  Richie Mitnick plays the music and a snack is provided at the break.  The cost is $3 at the door.

Physical Therapists from Johnson Memorial Medical Center will be meeting with interested participants on Tuesday, March 5, at 9 a.m., to discuss Exercising with Arthritis.  Bring your questions and drop in.

The Mature Driver Safety Program is being offered on Friday, March 15. Register in the Senior Center office for this free assessment.  A $5 gift card to Dunkin Donuts will be provided for participation.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Full Gael playing traditional Irish music.  There will be a bit of blarney and some Irish jigs.  Enjoy a traditional Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots and a special dessert also.  The wearin’ of the green comes to the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, March 15, at 5 p.m.  Tickets are on sale for $15 per person.

Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning your summer vacation.  We are hosting a trip to Cape Cod & Nantucket Island on August 11-13, 2013.  This 3-day adventure will include a performance by the Boston Pops, featuring conductor Keith Lockhart, in Hyannis.  A lobster dinner in Osterville and a Cape Cod sightseeing tour of the Outer Cape, along the National Seashore, is also included.  Cost:  $529 pp/dbl.  Reservations are being accepted at the Senior Center front desk.

New Traffic Laws– Wednesday, March 13, at 1 p.m.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training– Wednesday, March 20 at 1 p.m.  Learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis. Save the life of a friend, neighbor or relative.
