About 65 percent of adult Americans own a home, but that rate has dropped since a high of 69 percent in 2004, according to the U.S. Census.
Unemployment, student debt and fewer marriages have all contributed to the dearth of younger people buying homes, leading some in the media to dub young adults today as "Generation Rent."
