Things started a bit slowly for the Enfield High School boys basketball team Monday night in its Class M tournament opener against Wilcox Tech.

The visiting Indians grabbed five offensive rebounds in the first 90 seconds, while Enfield's top scorer, Paul Lima, missed his first two three-point attempts.

That all changed near the midway point of the first half, when Lima canned his first of six three-pointers en route to a career-high 35 points, leading the Raiders to a 78-43 victory to advance to the second round.

"I needed to knock one down to get the rhythm going," Lima said. "Once I feel one good one, it feels good from there."

Lima had 19 points at halftime, paving the way to a 39-23 Enfield advantage at intermission.

The Raiders took over in the third quarter, outscoring the Indians 23-8 to open up an insurmountable 31-point lead.

"I knew if we played well, we'd be able to control the game," Enfield head coach Cory O'Connell said. "I felt we had a few more pieces than they did, and our main goal was to shut down [Roosevelt] Shider, their main cog."

Eight Enfield players scored in the game. Kevin Camidge and Ra Preston joined Lima in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Shider, Jack Berryman and Steven Freitas each scored 10 points for Wilcox Tech.

Enfield, seeded sixth, will host Goodwin Tech Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Goodwin Tech, the number 11 seed, defeated Suffield in double overtime Monday, 60-58.
