When Congress failed to stop the federal sequester from taking effect last week, it subjected about a million federal employees to a cut in pay as mandated furloughs kick in.
According to the Washington Post, many federal employees face about a 20 percent pay cut as the number of work days are reduced.
Congressional staff members are subject to the furlough as well, but not members of Congress themselves, who protected their own pay in the 2011 Budget Control Act.
