The curtain goes up Thursday at 8 p.m. in Mapleton Hall for the Suffield Players' production of the contemporary comedy, Regrets Only.
The play features two veteran Suffield Players cast members: Kelly Seip and Josh Guenter, as well as four new Suffield thespians: Heidi Jean Weinrich, Chad Shipley, Jen Rawlings and Jomarie Pipolo.
According to the Players' Mary Fernandez: "In this fizzy comedy of Manhattan manners, socialite Tibby seems to have a perfect life: a best-friend fashion designer, a high-powered lawyer husband, and a daughter about to make a brilliant marriage. When everyone gets mixed up in a hilarious cultural and moral mini-revolution, Tibby must make some tough decisions so her daughter’s wedding can proceed… without anyone walking down the aisle wearing a garbage bag."
The play's director, Becky Beth Benedict of East Windsor, said the playwright's style is "hilarious" and his work "endearing, entertaining and thoughful."
"He takes a very serious subject... but then you find yourself laughing your head off," she explained.
Regrets Only explores the idea of marriage in society, and even touches on such things as gay marriage.
"It's done in such a beautiful, delicate way," Benedict explained. "It's not shoved down your throat. I'm excited the Suffield Players decided to do this for the season."
Regrets Only is set for Oct.r 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at Mapleton Hall, 1305 Mapleton Ave., Suffield.
Ticket prices are $17 ($12 Opening Night). Discounts are available for groups, seniors and students, as well as for season subscribers.
