The Enfield Police Department recognized 31 department members, divisions, outside agencies and citizens at its annual awards ceremony Friday night at the Holiday Inn.
Officers honored for outstanding service were:
- Det. Mike Bailey, Det. Brian Callaghan, Det. Dave Thomas, Det. Tim Lewis and the detective bureau, for diligent work resulting in the identification and arrest of suspects in the Eli Lilly burglary on March 14, 2010.
- Officers Barry Gavello and Pete Nisyrios, for capturing three fleeing suspects in a Brainard Road burglary on Nov. 17, 2011.
- Officer Nick Ragion, for interrupting a burglary at the Magic Minit Car Wash on Hazard Ave. on Jan. 20, 2012, which led to resolution of several other burglaries in the previous month.
- Officer Brian Boucher, for diligent surveillance which led to the capture of a suspect in several larcenies at the Peerless Machine and Tool Co. on Jan. 25, 2012.
- Officer Mark Rochette, for assisting Connecticut State Police in capturing two burglary suspects near the Somers town line on Feb. 16, 2012, and for administering CPR after a motor vehicle accident on I-91 on Sept. 22, 2012.
- Officer Matt Worden, for reviving a young man on March 15, 2012.
- Det. James Held, for developing information which led to a confession from a suspect in 17 burglaries and 31 larcenies in Enfield and several other jurisdictions in March 2012.
- Officer Ashley Taylor, for apprehending a burglary suspect on April 21, 2012, which led to the resolution of several other burglaries in Enfield and another jurisdiction.
- Officer Joe Blascyk, for administering CPR at the Raffia Road Service Station on April 25, 2012.
- Officer Jason Rutovich, for administering CPR to a woman on Nov. 23, 2012.
- Sgt. Chuck Grasso, for taking on additional responsibility of procuring state and federal grants for enforcement activities, the acquisition of state of the art equipment, and the realization of operational improvements during a variety of incidents and events.
Police department employees recognized were:
- The Communication Division, for its tireless work handling a weeklong emergency situation during the Oct. 29, 2011 storm and its aftermath.
- Dispatchers Jennifer Brazell, Jonathan Sliva and James Waibel, for handling numerous 911 calls during an altercation in which shots were fired on July 30, 2012.
- Dispatcher Robert Maltese, for dispatching vital information during a multi-jurisdictional pursuit which began at Kohl's on Oct. 24, 2012.
- Dispatcher Pat Carifa, for being the sole person to hear a radio distress call from a firefighter during collapse of a portion of a burning structure on Oct. 24, 2012.
An outside law enforcement agency honored was:
- The Connecticut State Police K-9 Search and Rescue Team, for helping find a missing suicidal person on Oct. 19-20, 2012.
Outstanding Citizen Awards were presented to:
- Patrick Kennedy, for providing information which led to the arrest of an armed robbery suspect on Dec. 24, 2011.
- Jerry Bishop and Nelvin Levester, for helping extricate an Enfield police officer who was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on Shaker Rd. on Jan. 22, 2012.
- Bradford West, Jared West and Christopher Nicewicz, for helping save a young man from an accidental hanging on Ridgefield Rd. on July 9, 2012.
- Dakota Waterman, for summoning aid and administering CPR to save his brother on Sept. 18, 2012.
