A 20-point spurt in the third quarter broke open a one-point game and propelled Windsor Locks to its third straight victory, defeating host Enfield 46-26 in NCCC girls basketball action Tuesday night.
Enfield trailed 15-12 at intermission, then closed within one on a pair of Hannah Lempitsky free throws to open the second half before Locks embarked on its gamebreaking run over a 5:49 stretch of the third quarter. Dominique Boyd had nine points and Jessica Kuzmickas added seven during the streak.
"Their zone gave us a little bit of a problem in the first half, so we had to change up what we were doing and make some adjustments," Windsor Locks head coach Doug Knowe said. "Dominique is a sophomore who is coming into her own; she's starting to really understand the game."
Enfield head coach Megan Willis said, "The second half was more of a mental game than anything. We had some injuries and foul trouble, and it all came tumbling down. I still have a young team, only two seniors, so I think lack of experience got the best of us."
Boyd finished with 16 points, while Kuzmickas contributed 10. Rachel Kaliff led Enfield with 12 points.
Both teams resume play Friday at 7 p.m. Windsor Locks (3-0) hosts Ellington, while Enfield (1-1) travels to East Windsor.
