A 42-year-old Enfield man is facing several charges stemming from an October 2012 motor vehicle accident in South Windsor which he allegedly provided alcohol to a minor and encouraged her to tell police that she had been driving.

Gary Guerrette, 42, of Enfield, was charged by South Windsor police on Dec. 28 with interfering with an officer, permitting a minor to possess alcohol and false statement in the second degree.

The charges arose out of an accident that took place on Rye Street in which a vehicle hit and broke a telephone pole, injuring both Guerrette and a 19-year-old female, both of whom were transported to Hartford Hospital.

According to a police press release, the investigating officer learned that Guerrette had purchased and supplied alcohol to the 19-year-old passenger and encouraged her to tell officers that she was driving the car at the time of the accident. An arrest warrant was later obtained for Guerrette, who was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond. He is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on Jan. 10.
