According to a one recent survey — the National Health Interview of January-June, 2012 — about 36 percent of American households have ditched the landline in favor of using only cell phones. In 2008, that number was more like 20 percent.
"In addition," the report said, "nearly one of every six American homes (15.9 percent) received all or almost all calls on wireless telephones despite also having a landline telephone."
