When it came to head-to-head confrontations, the annual wrestling match between crosstown rivals Enfield and Fermi high schools was totally even Friday night.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, a lack of numbers forced them to forfeit in five weight classes, worth six points each, giving the Falcons a 52-22 victory and the right to claim the prestigious Kirk Parker Cup for the third straight year.
Parker, the longtime Enfield coach who guided the Raiders to state championships in 1979 and 1984, was on hand to present the cup to the victorious Fermi squad.
"We've been wrestling very well for such a young squad," Fermi head coach Jeff Beiler said. "The kids have worked incredibly hard this year, and we're really excited about our prospects. The young kids are coming along, and the older kids are stepping up and showing leadership."
Joe Nai, Chandler Avery and Tyler Ferrante recorded pinfall victories for the Falcons, while Tony Bonatsos was victorious by major decision.
Vinny Marco and Jarret Maloney scored pins for Enfield. Zach Vincent posted a major decision win, while Bryan Murphy and Jason Davis won by decision.
