Police arrested two young men this week in connection with the drive-by shooting of a 16-month-old last week in New Haven.
According to the New Haven Register, the first man, Joseph Metteus, 18, was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child and gun offenses. A second suspect, Tythrone Ford, 19, was arrested on a parole violation but is likely to face the same charges. Police suspect the shooting was gang-related.
The young shooting victim's family went to the media this week, both to thank the police and to call for an end to gang violence that leaves toddlers at risk on the front porches of their own homes. The 16-month-old is recovering from the bullet wound to his stomach, which missed major organs, the Register reported.
Should shootings like this one renew a debate about gun control, or has the country gone down that road too many times without result?
