A downed tree at Abbe and Town Farm Rds.

Enfield was one of the lucky towns that avoided most of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Schools will re-open Wednesday morning after being closed for two days in anticipation of potential devastation from the storm. Asnuntuck Community College will also be open Wednesday.

The charging and water station at Kennedy Middle School will remain open until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mayor Scott Kaupin reported no residents had used the facility as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

At 5:45 p.m., just 34 CL&P customers remained without power in Enfield. When those residents have had power restored, utility crews will be released, Kaupin reported.

Three town roads were blocked by fallen tree limbs early Tuesday, but all had been cleared and re-opened by afternoon.

The Emergency Operations Center will be shut down Tuesday evening.
